Trinity awarded $531K grant for STEM inclusiveness

In November 2022, Trinity University received a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Inclusive Excellence 3 Program, for over $531,000. The purpose of this grant, led by Dr. Michele Johnson, is to transform our introductory STEM curricula to be more inclusive and anti-racist. We are approaching this critical goal in collaboration with 14 other colleges and universities in a “Learning Community Cluster.” Together, we are building projects in faculty development, student engagement, and curricular transformation. We aim for STEM to be an area in which all students feel they belong.

At Trinity, we have programs happening all over campus! Approximately 50 STEM faculty have joined Faculty Learning and Action Communities. We support the student Ambassadors for eXcellence In STEM (AXIS) program, which has involved 20 paid student ambassadors for inclusion. And we’re developing a faculty fellowship program and an annual curricular summit in STEM. Email Dr. Johnson if you’d like to know more!
